The European Biomass Association (AEBIOM Association Européenne pour la Biomasse) is a group of national biomass associations founded in 1990.  Membership is open to representatives of the European Union, Central and East Europe.  In 2006 AEBIOM counts 27 associations having in total more than 4000 members (companies, research centers, or individuals). Basic aim is promotion of biomass production and application throughout Europe.

The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) is an international association aiming at promoting the use of geothermal energy by:  a) encouraging R&D in the field of utilization of existing geothermal resources in Europe and allowing the public at large to have access to R&D results; b) exercising appropriate actions among European institutions to implement a legal and institutional framework and fiscal  instruments in order to allowing geothermal sources to compete with conventional energy supply; c) conducting activities to promote marketable deployment of geothermal energy in Europe and export of European geothermal technology, services and equipment to other countries; d) representing interests of European geothermal energy industry and users to governments and international organisations;  e) co-operating with national geothermal associations; f) disseminating information on the use of geothermal energy through publications, meetings, discussions to authorities, industry, and the public at large.

The association aims to promote photovoltaics at the national, European and worldwide levels and to assist its members in the development of their businesses in both the European Union and in export markets.

The European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) is an umbrella organisation of the leading European RE industry, trade and research associations active in the sectors of photovoltaic, wind energy, small hydropower, biomass, geothermal energy and solar thermal (AEBIOM, EGEC, EPIA, ESHA, ESTIF, EUBIA, EWEA, EUREC).  EREC objective is: a) To provide information and training on RE sources; b) To provide information and consultancy on RE for political decision-makers on a local, regional, national and international level; c) To publish information material (brochures, didactic material, manuals, etc.) on RE; d) To encourage studies on economics, techniques and feasibility in the field of RE for the member associations, external organisations, as well as public and private institutions; e) To co-operate with RE organisations from all over the world; f) To promote European exports of equipment and products, and promote the industrial protection of European RE technologies on global markets; g) To strengthen export initiatives and promote trade, while generally assisting the associations, the federation members of EREC and the RE world; h) To enlarge industrial export services with commercial publications, commercial indicators and seminars, etc.

It groups together market forces, technology providers, and knowledge centres, all of them active in the field of biomass. The European Renewable Energy Centres (EUREC) Agency was established as a European Economic Interest Grouping in 1991 to strengthen and rationalise the European research, demonstration and development efforts in all RE technologies. As an independent member-based association, it incorporates 46 prominent research groups from all over Europe. EUREC members' research fields include: solar buildings, wind, photovoltaics, biomass, small hydro, solar thermal power stations, ocean energy, solar chemistry and solar materials, hybrid systems, developing countries and integration of renewable energy in the energy infrastructure.
